1/ From time to time, I help clients with plan coordination and value engineering reviews for multifamily and industrial projects. Civil is often where I start. Here are a few ways to save costs and prevent delays later on:

2/ - Reuse existing SFD domestic water meters for new irrigation service.

- Reuse existing sewer laterals for new service (use multiple if needed and available)
- Adjust driveways around existing street lights, power poles, and utility boxes (don’t move things in PROW).
3/ - Show the street dedication on the plans and keep private facilities (irrigation valves, planters, etc.) out of the PROW to save permitting time.

- If flow reports aren’t available, order them early to determine if fire sprinkler or domestic booster pumps are required
4/ I get more granular in practice, but these are usually the low-hanging fruit that I see.
